What would change if you decided to do Christmas differently this year? There’s no time like the present to begin making Christmas one of those events you look forward to - a time to bring you together with those you love and strengthen your really important relationships.
The Ghost of Christmas Past
We each bring to Christmas our own unique memories of Christmas. Some of these are warm and fuzzy. Some are tinged with pain and sadness. Some make us laugh out loud. Some make us cry bitter tears. Some are our own ideas of what Christmas should be like. Some are traditions we’ve brought with us from our childhood.
Christmas is a time of strain
Family Solicitors and Marriage Counsellors anticipate a marked increase in Divorce enquiries in January. Why is this?
As full time, specialist relationship coaches we often find couples are not on the same page when it comes to major events such as holidays and Christmas. We all assume our spouse or partner knows what's important to us at this time of year and yet the evidence strongly suggests we get it wrong! It’s worth spending a little time together to discuss what you want this Christmas - to avoid frustration or disappointment - or even worse.
Creating the spirit of Christmas Present
Here are some practical ideas to help you discuss what you would really like to have happen this Christmas. In our ‘time starved’ society, we’re all so busy doing things, it can seem impossible to take time out for a ‘chat’. Just think how much easier your Christmas will be if you iron out any assumptions and clear up misunderstandings before they happen.
The FREE downloadable guide to ‘What’s important at Christmas’ includes exercises

Keep it simple and have fun! Fun is a major ingredient to success.
Will you need the number of a good solicitor before Christmas?
Okay, you can leave your creating your Christmas plan as late as one week before Christmas Day, but it’s probably cutting it a bit fine!
It’s worth spending time
Remember you are looking for positive ways to make Christmas special or at least bearable. This is unlikely to be a conversation you have had before and it will flush out for you both the sort of Christmas that will best suit you and your family. You may well find some new and exciting ways to celebrate the holiday. You may incorporate bits of Christmas past from each of you.
